Goat named Lucky

Lucky

My name is Lucky. I am a goat. My mom is the luckiest human in the world! I am the most smart and special goat in the world and I know it. I wasn’t always this way, though. When I came to the sanctuary, I didn’t want anything to do with any humans. Humans had never done anything but hurt me and so I decided never to let any of them get close to me if I could help it. From the beginning, I liked it here at the farm because there was lots of food, plenty of grass to eat, shelter from the rain (I don’t like to get wet) and all of the fresh cool water I could ever drink. What I couldn’t understand was why the other animals flocked around the humans whenever they were near. Didn’t the others know that humans were bad? I was perplexed but I kept away just to be on the safe side. One day, my curiosity got the better of me. I decided I would just creep up close and see what all the fuss was about. To my surprise, sometimes the human was handing out yummy treats. Now, I LOVE treats but in exchange for the treat the others were letting the human touch them! I did not want to be touched. No, thank you! But those treats looked really tempting so I put my brain to work on the problem. Finally I figured out that I could snatch the treat and run away. I did this for several days. I was very proud of how smart I was at getting the treats without getting touched. But then I noticed something. The others seemed to LIKE getting touched by the humans. They talked about how wonderful it was to get petted or brushed or scratched under the chin. Well, I was not about to let the others get something good without getting my share so I decided to try it. I sneaked up really quietly and reached out my nose toward the human’s hand. It smelled like the other goats, it didn’t grab or hurt me, and so I let it touch me. It was just a little touch but it wasn’t that bad. In fact, I kind of liked it and the human (my mom) seemed really happy about it, too. Well that was then, and this is now. Now I love to be brushed by my mom and I am always the first in line for pets and treats. My mom is right when she tells me what a smart and beautiful girl I am and how lucky she is to have me!
