Chance
(I'm the one with red antlers!)
In loving memory of
Chance
We say goodbye to our darling Chance
through tear-filled eyes. Chance came to the shelter in its early days
upon her retirement from a show home. She was the first goat Louie,
Lucy and I welcomed to our barnyard home and we love her very much.
She, like Louie and Lucy never knew abuse or neglect and for that I
am grateful. Always ready and willing to give a back rub with the side
of her face to anyone who sat down long enough, she was a truly kind
spirit, full of magic and grace. Chance was taken by a sudden, short
and as yet undetermined illness. Wet, rainy, hot conditions are very
hard on goats and we have had more than our share - this tragedy has
redoubled our determination to repair the roof on our main shelter.
We mourn the loss of Chance, she was a noble and loving being until
the end. I will miss you very much, Chance and I know that you will
be waiting for me at the rainbow bridge.
Love Mom
To Mom
Don’t cry, mom, for I am safe.
You kept me that way and for that I am grateful.
I never knew fear or hunger or thirst.
The only suffering I ever knew was at the end but you were with me
and my passing was accompanied by your love.
Bury my body with the others you have loved;
with the others who had known only hunger and pain and suffering until
they arrived at your door,
with the others who arrived too late for you to save but who died knowing
they were finally home.
I will never forget you and I know you will never
forget me.
To take my place, I’ll send more.
There are so many in need and they will love you as I have.
In each new face, you will see me and know that you have work to do.
But don’t cry at my grave, I’m no longer
there.
We are waiting for you.
But meanwhile, you’ve so much more to do.
