Meera
Cash & Meera
Our names are Cash and Meera. We are
a breed of goat called cashmere. We are very elegant and special goats.
In the summer we have smooth short hair but as summer ends and the days
get longer, we will grow a long, luxuriously soft coat of silky white
hair that will keep us warm. Then in the spring as the days get longer
and the weather gets warmer, our long hair will fall out and we will
have our sleek short coats again so we will be cool. Some people use
our long winter hair to make sweaters and blankets because it is so
soft and warm.
We are brother and sister and came from
a farm that couldn’t take care of us anymore. We really didn’t
have enough shelter and our feet didn’t get the attention that
a goat’s feet need. Each toe on our hooves has an outer shell
like your fingernails and just like your fingernails, our hooves keep
growing if they are not trimmed. Our hooves grew so much that they started
turning up like elves’ shoes. This made it hard for us to walk
normally and was quite painful. When we got to the sanctuary, though,
our new mom began trimming our hooves regularly and now we feel much
better. She also gave us the medicine we needed to keep us strong and
to keep us from getting sick. We love it here at the sanctuary and will
never, ever leave. Well, gotta go back to work…we’re working
on growing a lot of beautiful cashmere hair and trying to find someone
who will make it into a sweater for our Mom!
